We are in Kenmere, ND, and should enter Canada in a few hours.
Yesterday we had a terrific headwind and side wind, depending on whether we were going north or west (or northwest, of course). It was nerve wracking, and the motor home was frequently hard to control because it is tall and wide and light. But no biggie -- I'm a good driver.
One of my favorite books was "Centennial" by James Michner. I remember the housewife who was driven crazy by the constant wind and ended up killing her children and herself. I felt more sympathetic yesterday.
The weather (other than the wind) has been beautiful. Sunshine and blue skies. Fabulous scenery. It was flat, flat, flat until just the other side of Minot, but there was always something interesting to see when looking across the fields. Every field has a large pile of roundish rocks, ground down and left in the field by glaciers -- and then gathered by the (probably exasperated) farmers.
When driving through Fargo, I couldn't help but smile, remembering the movie "Fargo." Frances McDorman was so funny in that.
Around Minot the terrain started to get hilly, with the hills looking like the hills in badlands with lots of erosion and slumping. They were covered in grassy-looking growth and looked beautiful in the sun and shadows. There have been LOTS of pools, ponds, and lakes beside the roads. Sometimes there were cattail-looking reeds -- both brown from last year and green from this year. Nearly all bodies of water had water fowl of several varieties. There are red-wing blackbirds everywhere, and I saw a coyote.
It's time to get this show on the road for the day. I hope to post pix soon.
Thanks for reading.
Charlotte
